💬Frequently asked questions
How are tools ranked on ToolSorta?+
Each ranking combines user ratings, review volume and editorial scoring of features, pricing and output quality. The default order reflects that combined score, but every list on Top tools can be re-sorted by popularity, score, newest or price to match the criteria that matter most to a given buyer.
What standards apply to user reviews?+
Only signed-in users can post reviews, and each review is moderated before publication. ToolSorta does not accept payment for reviews, ratings or ranking positions, and reviews showing signs of manipulation or undisclosed affiliation are removed.
How should the Free, Freemium and Paid labels be read?+
Free: no cost to use. Freemium: a functional free plan with paid tiers for more usage or features. Paid: a subscription or one-time purchase is required, sometimes preceded by a trial. Sorting by price surfaces the lowest-cost options first.
What is the process for adding a tool to ToolSorta?+
Makers use the Submit a tool form: product details, category, pricing, then a plan — a one-time Listing or a monthly Featured placement — paid through Stripe. Every submission is checked for accuracy by an editor before it enters the rankings.
Are sponsored placements distinguished from organic rankings?+
Yes. Sponsored placements, featured slots and mentions in The Sorted Weekly newsletter are always labeled as sponsored, and they do not alter a tool's organic score or rank. Information on available formats is listed on the Advertise page.
How does the shortlist work?+
Selecting the heart icon on a tool adds it to the shortlist, available on the Saved page. The shortlist is intended as a staging area: candidates can be reviewed together and then sent to the comparison view.
Can several tools be compared directly?+
The Compare page places up to three tools side by side across pricing, features, ratings and platforms. Popular pairings also have dedicated head-to-head pages, and any ranking can be switched to table view for a quick scan of key attributes.
How current is the ranking data?+
Ratings and popularity signals update as new reviews and activity come in, and listing details such as pricing are re-checked on a recurring basis or when a maker reports changes. A summary of notable movements is published in The Sorted Weekly.
